Dentures are a way of replacing as few as one or as many as all of your teeth. They are made from a hard-wearing material that mimics the look of teeth and gums to give your mouth a natural appearance. They are removed for cleaning and maintenance of the mouth and your dentist/hygienist will instruct you on the routine to follow.
Why might they be needed?
- Stabilise the mouth by replacing missing teeth.
- Improve the appearance – no gaps
- Improve the appearance- supports the facial muscles and reduces an 'aged' appearance
- Can facilitate eating and speaking properly.
Are they the only solution to my gap?
Even if a denture is the only solution then the denture can be stabilised and made more secure using implants (see denture stabilisation).
